Tour Mélange
Depart Our base in Roseau and drive up the west coast passing
through several maritime villages on the way to Portsmouth in
the north of the island.

In Portsmouth take a rowboat trip up the Indian River, which
got its name because the Kalinago people (carib Indians) once
lived on the higher ground up the river and used it as a route to
the sea.
The vegetation along the banks of the river is dominated by
sedges and the towering and intricately buttressed Mang trees
{Pterocarpus Officinalis}.

Herons, kingfishers, land crabs and sometimes iguanas can be
seen in the trees or on the river banks.
The song of the Scaly Breasted Thrasher is often heard along the
way.
When the rowboats go to  where the river narrows we will get
out and take a walk or go to the bush bar for a drink.
The duration of the river trip is about one hour.

Next we get back to the vehicle and drive to a Banana Plantation
area to begin a hike to see the Milton Falls, one of Nature's
exotic waterfalls nestled under the canopy of the rainforest.
The hike is relatively easy but involves crossing a river several
times.

Unfortunately we will not be able to swim at this waterfall
because it is the water source for a coastal village.
We move on again for the final part of the Tour Mélange, the
Syndicate rainforest located at the foothills of Morne Diablotin
the highest mountain on the island.

This rainforest is part of the Morne Diablotin National Park,
created for the preservation and protection of the island’s two s
two endangered and endemic parrots the Sisserou and the
Jacquot.

You will walk on well maintained trails, which pass through
some of Dominica’s best easily accessible Oceanic Rainforest,
abundant with trees like the giant Gommier
(Dacryodes Excelsa) the incredibly buttressed chataignier
(Sloanea Carabea) numerous epiphytes and stranglers.
The guides will give information about agriculture, vegetation,
rainforest and wildlife.
